Solid timber slabs. Natural edges. Built to outlast trends.

At RockVine, every live edge dining table begins with a carefully selected slab of solid timber — typically 40–60mm thick — in species such as Oak, Cedar, Yew and Walnut. Each slab is individually assessed, flattened, shaped, finished and sealed by hand in our Stockport workshop.

We preserve the natural organic form of the tree without leaving rough or flaky edges, and combine each slab with our signature steel bases for strength and balance.

Any imperfections are filled with a variety of resins to give a sleek natural finish.

Why Choose a RockVine Live Edge Table?

Premium Solid Timber (No Veneer, No Engineered Board)

All RockVine live edge tables are made from single slabs or bookmatched pairs of real hardwood.

We only work with properly seasoned, moisture-stable timber to minimise future movement.

Benefits include:
- authentic grain, depth and warmth
- long-term structural stability
- better finishing options
- a table that becomes more characterful with time

40-60mm Thick Slab Tops

Each slab is substantial and visually balanced.Typical thicknesses:

- 40mm – modern, refined profile
- 50–60mm – heavier, more dramatic presence

We never machine slabs so thin that they lose strength or feel lightweight.

Smooth, refined Live Edges (Not Rough Bark)

We retain the natural contour of the tree but remove all loose bark and soft material.

Edges are:
- sanded
- shaped
- sealed
- safe to touch
- snag-free

This keeps the organic look while ensuring the table is practical for everyday dining.

Your Choice of Finish

We offer four furniture-grade finishes depending on your style and maintenance preference:

- Oil – natural warmth, enhanced grain
- Satin – soft sheen, refined appearance
- Gloss – high-impact, reflective finish
- Matte – clean, modern, low-reflection look

Each finish is applied in multiple coats with full curing time for durability.

Premium Steel Bases

All live edge tables are supplied with RockVine bases:
- Black X-Frame Base
-Black Square Frame Base

Base Upgrades:
-
Any RAL colour (+£250)
- Upgraded design base (+ £300)

We match the slab to the chosen steel base, level the structure, and complete final inspection before delivery.

How We Make a RockVine Live Edge Table

Step 1 — Slab Selection

We review slabs for grain quality, shape, size, structural condition and moisture content.

Step 2 — Planning & Layout

We determine the orientation, usable width, edge refinement and final table length.

Step 3 — Flattening & Shaping

Using specialist equipment, we flatten each slab and refine the live edges without losing their character.

Step 4 — Sanding & Detailing

Multiple sanding stages ensure a smooth, tactile surface.Cracks or voids are stabilised where required.

Step 5 — Finishing

We apply your chosen finish: oil, satin, gloss or matte — with curing time between each coat.

Step 6 — Base Fitting & Final Quality Checks

We match the slab to the chosen steel base, level the structure, and complete final inspection before delivery.

FAQ's

Will the live edge feel rough?

No. All edges are fully sanded and sealed, keeping their natural shape but smooth to the touch.

Will the timber move or crack over time?

Minimal movement is normal with real wood, but we use properly seasoned slabs and construction techniques that greatly reduce this.

Can you colour-match the finish?

Yes — we can adjust tone, sheen and depth to complement your flooring, cabinetry or furniture.

Do you make matching benches?

Yes — with or without live edges.

How do I clean the table?

Use a soft cloth and mild cleaner. Oiled finishes may require periodic re-oiling depending on usage.
